Seeing Red?

Find the red chairs outside and relax!

There is a new spot for anyone who may need a break and de-stress while strolling through UC Davis Arboretum. Learning by Leading™ interns, Kailey Flynn and Madison Main, in Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship, started “Chair Share” – a program that aims to encourage our community to spend more time outside. Studies show that even a short time outdoors can reduce stress and improve mood, among a variety of other social and well-being benefits. (Learn more about the health benefits of nature.)

Chair Share currently includes about 10 (mostly) red Adirondack chairs and a few blankets. Now the creators are teaming up with Arboretum Ambassadors, another Learning by Leading team overseen by the Arboretum and Public Garden, and bringing the program to the public and our community on a semi-regular basis.

Currently in its pilot stages, this Chair Share is a preview of what its creators hope to develop in the near future. The chairs will be laid out at Lake Spafford (near Mrak Hall) on Fridays from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. until March 4 so if you see the big red chairs, have a seat, press the refresh button, and breathe.
