Prunus serotina var. virens, Southwestern black cherry, is a small multi-trunked tree or large shrub. It has an attractive fall color, fragrant white flowers bloom in spring, and produces fruit with a red to black color.

Potential Issues

Everything except fruit is HIGHLY TOXIC. Not deer resistant.

Propagation Results

Freshest seed had best germination sown in October in the greenhouse. Future trials should include scarification and cold stratification. Seedlings are growing at a moderate pace.
