Oak Circle of Life Tile Dedications
The UC Davis Art-Science Fusion Program was established to bring together students and community members to create nature-themed art pieces that can be found throughout the Arboretum and other campus landscapes.
The Oak Circle of Life installation is comprised of 43 hand-made ceramic tiles that form an interlocking pattern on the south seatwall at the entry to the Peter J. Shields Oak Grove. Each of the 43 Oak Circle of Life Tiles represents one part of the life cycle of a mighty oak tree.

The Peter J. Shields Oak Grove is located in the west end of the Arboretum, near the Gazebo, the Arboretum Teaching Nursery, and Nature’s Gallery Court.
Dedicating a tile in the Peter J. Shields Oak Grove supports the Arboretum’s education programs for children and families. Each Oak Circle of Life Tile dedication includes your custom inscription engraved on the decorative tile located immediately in front of the circle tile you select for dedication. Gifts are fully tax-deductible.
