Launch the Learning Center

Thank you!

Thanks to a generous estate gift honoring Elizabeth Mary Wolf, we are building an Environmental Learning Center at the west end of the Arboretum, inside the Arboretum Teaching Nursery.

We are grateful to everyone who gave to our "Launch the Learning Center" campaign from April 22–May 5, 2022 during UC Davis Give Day, the Sacramento region's Big Day of Giving or at other times this spring. Gifts from over 200 contributors provided more than $77,000 in funding, surpassing our goal!

Spring campaign donations earmarked for the Environmental Learning Center project will fund furnishings and landscaping in and around the new Elizabeth Mary Wolf Environmental Learning Center as well as support the Learning by Leading™ students hosting the free public education programs that bring the facility to life.

What will the Elizabeth Mary Wolf Environmental Learning Center be like?

The Elizabeth Mary Wolf Environmental Learning Center will enrich the west end of the Arboretum as a dynamic hub for people and programs. Its main feature will be a spacious multi-purpose room designed with open flow to the Arboretum Teaching Nursery courtyard.

This indoor-outdoor facility will serve as a public program space, a classroom for visitor and volunteer events, and a program staging area for students in the Arboretum and Public Garden’s innovative environmental leadership program — Learning by Leading™. In addition, The Learning Center will provide offices, a kitchenette and bathrooms for students, staff, volunteers and event participants.

The opening of the Elizabeth Mary Wolf Environmental Learning Center will support an expanded calendar of public programs and usher in a new era of increased public engagement at the Arboretum Teaching Nursery for members, families and the public.
