Gardening Corner: December 2017

Winter is here and that means trees and plants alike are preparing for the cold months ahead. Director of horticulture Ellen Zagory has a few tips for protecting your plants against frost.

If the forecast predicts frost, be sure to cover your sensitive plants with woven fabric, especially over night.

However, if your plant is already frost-bitten, stay away from the trimmers! Pruning your plant stimulates new growth, which will also then be frosted over. Best practice is to wait until after the last frost of the season, usually sometime in February, before trimming off our plant’s dead parts.
