From Seed to Fork: Growing Produce for the Student Pantry

Tomatoes, chard, bell peppers and lettuce are just some of the bounty the Arboretum and Public Garden’s Learning by Leading™ Edible Landscaping team will be growing and harvesting. This video showcases the team’s planting of seeds that they will tend to over the next quarter from seed, to full-fledged plant, to harvest.  This full-cycle process is part of the team’s curriculum which allows the interns to lead every step along the way.

The team maintains the Salad Bowl Garden outside the Plant and Environmental Sciences building as well as plots in the Good Life Garden from which they frequently harvest, donating all their produce to The Pantry, a free food resource for UC Davis students.

Get a glimpse of the Edible Landscaping team’s work as they plant seeds and the interns share some of their most memorable moments.
