Nursery Under Construction

Since the Arboretum Teaching Nursery opened in 2008, it’s been a hub for our community to learn about sustainable horticulture, attracting over 8,500 customers a year to our seasonal plant sales. Now, thanks to a generous estate gift honoring Elizabeth Mary Wolf, we are building an environmental learning center inside the Teaching Nursery to further increase public engagement and empower our student environmental leaders.

When complete, the indoor-outdoor facility will serve as a public program space, a classroom for visitor and volunteer events, and a program staging area for students in our innovative environmental leadership program — Learning by Leading™️. In addition, the Environmental Learning Center will provide offices, a kitchenette and bathrooms for students, staff, volunteers and event participants.

We expect the new building to be in place later this spring and ready to open this fall! Work to make the new learning center ready for programs and visitors will continue through the summer. Stay tuned to our website, e-newsletter and social media accounts for up-to-the-minute information.

Although construction of the new Environmental Learning Center building is fully funded, we are seeking support from the community to make it visitor and program ready. Gifts from our generous community members will support the people and materials needed to make the new space spring to life as a program hub.
