Stripped of most of its landscaping as a result of construction, Arboretum areas on either side of the recently re-opened La Rue Road Bridge, are now in the process of being revived!
The La Rue Bridge replacement project and 2-year detour around the bridge is officially over, with the paths in the Arboretum now open to the public just in time for scenic strolls and holiday hikes. Over the past couple of years, the expansive project required pedestrians, bikers, and cars to maneuver around the construction via detours while the Arboretum walkways under and near the bridge were closed.
The La Rue Bridge replacement project is well underway with plans to shift vehicular traffic from the current portion of the old bridge to the completed half of the new bridge in mid-April. Design and Construction Management (DCM) is on track to demolish the remaining half of the old bridge and complete the rest of new bridge by the start of Fall quarter.
This spring, construction will begin on the La Rue Road Bridge replacement. The new bridge will safely accommodate the increasing number of cars, bikes and pedestrians now traveling to and from the campus’s expanding Gateway District.
