Nature Rx Virtual

Nature Rx Virtual

Even if you can't get outside, there are benefits to engaging with nature in a virtual environment! Everyone can lean into nature as a source of hope, comfort, healing and well-being especially during stressful times. Below are links to activities that can serve as a resource for connecting you with nature and/or the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden virtually.

New Arbo Anthems Playlist

To perfectly complement the relaxing and beautiful nature of the Arboretum, UC Davis has made an "Arbo Anthems" music playlist on Spotify. In early November, the UC Davis official Instagram account asked the community to submit songs that they would like to see on the playlist via Instagram stories. The inspiration for the playlist?

Gardening Podcasts

Gardening Podcasts

On Tuesdays, UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden Superintendent Emeritus Warren Roberts joins Sacramento radio fixture Farmer Fred (Fred Hoffman) on his podcast "Garden Basics." On these shows Roberts discusses his "Plant of the Week" — a perennial, shrub or tree that is widely adaptable across the United States. (These episodes are listed below.) To listen to all the "Garden Basics" episodes and subscribe via a variety of podcast aggregators, click the link below.

Memories Project

Stories bring us together, even when we're apart. We encourage you to share a special memory, reminisce about a favorite plant or nature sighting in our gardens, recount a fun anecdote, or simply tell us about the impact the Arboretum and Public Garden has had on your life. We love to hear about your personal connections!

Children's Pollinator Books Read Aloud

Students participating in our Learning by Leading Habitat Horticulture program read children's books about pollinators. These videos were created during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way for kids (and adults!) to learn more about the importance of pollinators as we all sheltered in place.

Oak Gall's History and Life Cycle

Join our Learning by Leading™ GATEways Outreach team as they explain what oak galls (aka oak apples) are, how they are created by wasps in addition to creative ways they are used by humans to create ink in this charming and educational explainer video!
