The Friends of the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden Board is accepting nominations for members-at-large for the term beginning July 1, 2016. Consider offering your talents to support this amazing organization! The Board leads the Friends work groups that support the Arboretum through fundraising and involvement in strategic initiatives. Any member of the Friends of the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden is eligible for nomination. Nominees will be considered by a nomination committee appointed by the president. This May 3, 2016, the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden is participating in our region’s annual Big Day of Giving, a 24-hour online giving challenge for the entire community. Over 570 non-profits in the region are participating to raise funds for projects that impact every facet of our community.
We invite all our members, donors, supporters and visitors to attend Picnic Day – a family friendly event that’s free for all to come and experience the richness of diversity and achievement at UC Davis.
Staff from across the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden organization gathered together with our volunteers to fill in native grass plantings at our California native plant meadow. Located adjacent to the School of Veterinary Medicine’s new student services and administrative center – scheduled for completion in July 2016 – this area will also be home to an events lawn, café, restroom, as well as the future site of our pollinator and hummingbird demonstration gardens.
Now, as landscapes are being revamped due to the drought, and lawns are removed or let go, the UC Davis campus, the city and its residents are in a position to serve as an example of how urban areas — particularly urban areas in the heart of agricultural country — can support global crop production through small changes in landscape choices.
Thanks to our hardworking Arboretum and Public Garden Grounds and Landscape Services team, UC Davis has been named "Tree Campus USA" for the eighth year in a row by the Arbor Day Foundation!
